First Verse. The children bow to teacher, then turn to right and shake hands with play­mate.
Second Verse.
They turn to left and shake hands with friend, and then throw kisses to one another.
Merry Sunshine.

Characters and objects represented. Sunshine, stars, moon, children of the East, birds, bees, flowers, and the child who played so late. Each child in ring- personates a bird, flower, bee, or child of the East; and all pretend to be asleep, but the children of the East, who stoop or bend over with faces to the ground. The child who played so late stands in ring and sings the first verse of song. At one end of the ring are the little stars and the moon, all turning round and round. Merry Sunshine stands outside the ring and as the song-begins enters the ring between the moon and stars, who all run away at his approach. Sunshine flies to child in ring who sings alone the last two lines of first verse.
As the second verse begins Sunshine goes softly around the ring and touches the children of the East, who all stand erect at his touch. He then touches the flowers, bees, birds, who all awaken and join in song. Sunshine then kisses his hand to the child who played so late and then runs away.
